Jeffrey Phillips has over 15 years of innovation experience, assisting Fortune 500 companies with innovation programs as a consultant for RTI Innovation Advisors and OVO Innovation. Jeffrey focuses primarily on the strategic, organizational and cultural aspects of innovation, helping companies build innovation capacity and repeatable innovation methodologies and frameworks.
Innovation Work Experience
Jeffrey has led innovation projects for Fortune 500 firms, including T. Rowe Price, John Deere, GlaxoSmithKline, Hewlett-Packard, U.S. Bank, TransAmerica, AIG, Milliman, 5th 3rd Bank, Hollister, Electrolux, Hamilton-Beach, Raytheon and others. He has led innovation within the Department of Defense, for example the Innovation Crossover event for NSWC Crane.

In addition to these activities Jeffrey has helped clients improve innovation culture, deepen innovation skills through innovation training, identify valuable innovators in an organization by identifying innovation traits and assisted with the definition and staffing of innovation centers of excellence.
Training / Workshops
Jeffrey has led innovation training and leadership development programs in the United States, Western Europe, the Middle East, South Africa, South America and Southeast Asia, leveraging packaged innovation training as well as developing customize curricula. In 2018 he led research and workshops examining future growth and innovation opportunities for the country of Malaysia. He taught a recurring MBA program in Mexico City and teaches a recurring class for N.C. State University’s engineering program.
Books
Jeffrey is the author of three books, two about innovation and one about strategy.
OutManeuver, published in February 2016, focuses on the strategic concept of maneuver and how firms like Airbnb, Uber, Zara, Tesla and others use agility, speed and innovation to disrupt existing industries.
Relentless Innovation, published in 2011, examines the reasons 3M, P&G, Apple and Google can sustain innovation over time while others can’t. Finally, Make us more Innovative, defines much of the original OVO Innovation methodology. He has contributed to several other books about innovation, most notably the book Open Innovation and Crowdsourcing.

Jeffrey’s blog about innovation, Innovate On Purpose, is ranked as one of the top blogs about innovation on the web. He is a regular weekly contributor to Inc Magazine and also contributes to other innovation-oriented websites such as Innovation Management and Innovation Excellence. He is a sought-after speaker and has presented to corporations, innovation oriented conferences, and at a number of universities. From 2010 to 2018 he chaired the Innovate Carolina conference and has been a keynote speaker at a range of corporate events and conferences.

Jeffrey has an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin and an undergraduate degree in engineering from the University of Virginia.
